S Somanath Takes Charge as Vikram Sarabhai Space Center’s Director

ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion System Center director S Somanath has taken charge as the new director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center. it is ISRO’s lead center for launch vehicles. he has replaced K Sivan who has joined ISRO as a chairman.

India to Host 16th International Energy Forum Meet

The 16th International Energy Forum (IEF) Ministerial meeting will be held in New Delhi in April 2018. According to the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, the meeting will be hosted by Government of India in New Delhi and co-hosted by the Government of China and South Korea. Representatives from 92 countries will be participating in the conference, including 72 member countries of IEF and 20 guest countries.

RIL Becomes India’s 1st Firm to cross Rs 6 Lakh Crore Market Capitalization

Reliance Industries become the first Indian company to cross the Rs 6 lakh crore mark in market capitalization as its shares touched a 52 week high of Rs 974.5. RIL is owned 40% by its chairman Mukesh Ambani, making him the richest Indian with the personal wealth of $40.7 billion and the 20th richest globally.

Rachel Morrison 1st Oscar nominated female cinematographer 

Rachel Morrison has become the first female cinematographer to receive an Oscar nomination in the 89-year-old history of the Awards. She has been nominated for her work in the film ‘Mudbound’. “The job of the cinematographer is to visualise emotion – things we as women are inherently good at,” said Rachel while speaking about her nomination.

 7th Asian Steel International Conference to be held in Bhubaneswar

The 7th Asian Steel International Conference will be held in Bhubaneswar, The announcement was made by Tata Steel association with the Indian Institute of Metals.

First International Dam Safety Conference held in Thiruvananthapuram

The first International Dam Safety Conference-2018 was held in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala). It was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and was presided over by Union Minister of State for Water Resources Arjun Ram Meghwal.This Conference is fourth in series organized under the aegis of ongoing Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP).It was organized jointly by Central Water Commission (CWC), Kerala Water Resources Department (KWRD), National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC), and College of Engineering.

Lifter Rakhi Halder Creates New National Record

Lifter Rakhi Halder created a new national record in clean and jerk to a gold medal in the 63kg Women’s category in the 33rd Women Senior National Weightlifting Championship in Mangaluru, Karnataka.

World Economic Forum Summit in Switzerland Concludes 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home after concluding his visit to Davos, Switzerland. During the visit, the Prime Minister delivered a keynote address at the plenary session of the 48th annual meeting of World Economic Forum. He became the first Indian prime minister in two decades to join the world’s top business leaders in the Swiss resort town of Davos. He outlined climate change, terrorism and protectionism as three global threats.

He also met his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau. Both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to stand firm in combating terrorism.

India inks $120 million loan agreement with World Bank to fund improved water supply in Uttarakhand

The Government of India, the Government of Uttarakhand and the World bank Board signed a $120 million Loan Agreement which will help increase access to improved water supply services in peri-urban areas in the State of Uttarakhand.
