IES Exam Pattern 2020: Marking Scheme, Number of Questions

The official notification of Indian Engineering Services Examination has been announced by the Union Public Service Commission, Along with this notification, IES Exam Pattern has been also announced on 25 September 2019. The prelims for the exam has been conducted on 5 January 2020 and the IES Mains Examination will be conducted on 28 June 2020. IES Exam Pattern 2020

  • Exam Mode: Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be conducted via offline mode (i.e. Pen and Paper Based).
  • Exam Type: IES Prelims Examination has only Objective type questions whereas IES Mains Examination has both type questions i.e. Subjective type or objective type questions.
  • The language of Examination: English
  • For each correct answer, 1 marks will be rewarded to you and for each incorrect answer, 1 marks will be deducted from your total marks.

IES Exam will be comprised into three sections:

  • Stage 1 (IES Preliminary Examination)
  • Stage 2 (Mains Examination)
  • Stage 3 (Personal Interview)

IES Exam Pattern for Stage 1 (Prelims Examination)

  • Exam Mode: Offline Mode
  • Total Number of Papers: 2 Papers. Paper 1 is for General Studies and Paper 2 is for Engineering Specialization (Civil, Electrical, Electronic, and Mechanical).
  • Question Type: Objective Type Question Paper/Multiple Choice
  • Language: English
  • Marking Scheme: 1/3rd will be deducted for each incorrect answer

IES Exam Pattern for Stage 2 (Mains Examination)

  • Exam Mode: Offline Mode
  • Total Number of Papers: 2 Papers. Both Papers have questions from engineering specialization i.e. Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.
  • Question Types: Conventional (Multiple Choice as well as Subjective Type of Questions).

  • Through this authority wants to check the Personality Test.
  • This is the final selection criteria for IES Selection Process.
  • This section contains 200 Marks.
  • Only those can attempt IES Interview Section who will qualify written examination.
