PVR History
This company has its origin as Priya Cinema in Vasant Vihar in South Delhi. It was established by the father of present Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Bijli in 1978. Later, Ajay Bijli made it a joint venture between Priya Exhibitors Private Limited and Village Roadshow Limited established in 1995.
The headquarters of the company is located in Gurgaon, India.
PVR Expansion
PVR Ltd. has several subsidiaries among which PVR Cinemas is its major subsidiary. It has other subsidiaries, named PVR Pictures, PVR ICON, PVR Superplex, and PVR Leisure. PVR Pictures has been a gigantic distributor of non-studio/ independent international films in India since 2002. PVR Pictures has the highest box office shares of independent foreign-language films in the country and consistently releases around 30-40 films per year.
In the year 2012, the company acquired Cinemax and had taken over DT Cinemas in the year 2016 serving 76 million patrons annually. Currently, PVR operates a cinema chain of more than 745 Screens, 160 Properties located in 62+ Cities (21 states and 1 Union Territory) in India like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Indore, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Ujjain, Kolkata, Lucknow, etc.
