After the Indian Administrative Services (IAS/Civil Services) exam, the IES Exam is the most popular and toughest exam in India. Those who got selection also came into the Grade 1 Officer and work under the supervision of the government of India. It is popularly known as Indian Engineering Services/ Engineering Services Examination (ESE). They manage a large segment of the public sector economy, which is made up of Indian railways, Energy, Telecommunications, Central Water Engineering, Engineer Defence Services, Central Engineering Services, etc. The nature of the work done by these bureaucrats depends to a large extent on their engineering and service branch or the staff they employ. UPSC is the main conducting authority of the IES Examination and is also popularly known as the Union Public Service Commission had released IES Exam Notification on September 22, 2021. The notification was released to fulfil the various vacant positions available in various departments in the Government of India.

The IES Prelims exam was conducted on February 20th, 2022, and IES Main Exam will be conducted on June 26th,  2022.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Candidates who belong to India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibetan Refugees can apply.

Age Limit: Candidates, age must fall under the age of 30 years with a minimum age of 21 years.

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a bachelor of engineering program degree in any specialization.

Physical Standard: As per the exam conducting authorities’ physical standard, candidates must be physically fit for qualifying in the examination.

IES Application form filling process was available from September 22nd, 2021 till October 12th, 2021.

How to Apply?

Registration will be done in two parts i.e.

  • Part 1 Registration
  • Part 2 Registration

In part, one candidate needs to fill in the personal details, whereas, in part two, candidates need to pay the application fee and upload passport size photographs and scanned signatures.

Steps to Fill Online Application Form 2022

  • Visit the official website of UPSC to apply for the IES exam.
  • Click on the apply online link for UPSC ESE Prelims Exam.
  • Click on Part I of the application form.
  • Log in with your registration number and date of birth to complete the ESE exam application form.
  • Upload the necessary documents.
  • Pay the amount of the application fee as per your category.
  • Submit the UPSC ESE online form.
  • Lastly, take a printout of the application form for future reference.

Admit Card

Union Public Service Commission releases IES Admit Card for both mains and prelims. The admit card is available via only Online Mode. Candidates can download their Admit Card from the official website of UPSC. The candidates who have successfully registered for the exam will be able to download the admit card. Only the candidates who clear the prelims will be able to download the main exam admit card.

Through the IES Exam Pattern, the candidates get the information about the difficulty level of the examination, the number of question asked in the examination, total marks, and etc.

UPSC will declare the IES Prelims Exam Result soon on the official website. Candidates who have successfully cleared the IES Prelims examination will be qualified for the IES Mains Examination. Those who clear the prelims exam will attempt the main examination, and if cleared, they will go for the interview process. A final merit list of the selected candidates will be declared after the final result declaration.

Selection Process

The selection process is done through two stages:

  • Written Stages
  • Personal Stages

The written stage is followed by two steps, i.e. candidates who clear the prelims examination to go for the main examination. Candidates who will qualify for the main examination go for the Personal Interview process. Finally, the candidates who get selected in the Personal Interview will be notified in the final merit list. The appointment letter will be allocated to the candidates whose name is present on the merit list.

IES Cut-Off

The cut-off is the minimum marks required to qualify for the IES Examination. After the IES Result declaration, the cut-off will also be declared. The IES cut-off depends on the following factors:
