BITS, Pilani organizes this university-level engineering entrance test for admissions to undergraduate engineering courses at its three campuses. The courses that come under this are BE, BPharm, and MSc programs. This exam is conducted annually, and approximately 3 lac students appear in it. To ace this examination, the candidates must be aware of the paper pattern. Knowing the paper pattern beforehand helps the students in many ways. It prepares the students for the kind of questions they are going to face in the examination; it gives them an idea about the weightage and duration of each segment so that they know how much do they need to prepare for a particular portion of the paper and how much time can they dedicate to a specific section. The BITSAT Exam Pattern is as given below:

  • Mode of Exam: Online mode only (CBT)
  • Duration of Exam: 3 hours.
  • Slot: Two slots are available, i.e. 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
  • Type of Question: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ).
  • Sections: Four sections will be there.
  • Marking Scheme: For each correct answer, candidates will get 3 marks.
  • Negative Marking: For each incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted. No marks will be deducted for unattended questions.
  • Language: English language.
  • Number of Questions: 150 questions are there in the question paper.
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning and Mathematics/Biology (for B.Pharma candidates).

The BITSAT examination is conducted as a computer-based test. The total duration of the examination will be 180 minutes, and the candidates will have to solve a total of 150 questions in that duration. The paper will have questions from four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning, and Mathematics or Biology(for B.Pharm). The candidates will be awarded 3 marks for every correct answer, and 1 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer. The questions will be Multiple-choice type, and the candidates can select only one option. The selected answer can be changed later on by the candidates (before the conclusion of the exam). The score will be immediately displayed on the screen after the test is over.

States of Matter, Atomic Structure, Thermodynamics, Physical and Chemical Equilibria, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, Hydrogen and s-block elements, etc.


Diversity in Living World, Cell – The Unit of Life; Structure and Function, Genetics and Evolution, Structure and Function – Plants, Structure and Function – Animals, Reproduction, Growth and Movement in Plants, etc.
