Previous Year’s Cut Off

Understanding the previous year’s cut-offs is essential for gauging the competition levels. Typically, for the general category, CAT cut-offs have hovered between 95 to 99 percentile in recent years to secure admission into IIMs. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that cut-off percentiles may fluctuate across different IIMs and programs. The requisite percentiles are usually comparatively lower for candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST, often ranging from 70 to 80 percentile. Recognizing that these cut-offs are subject to annual adjustments, influenced by factors like the exam’s difficulty level and the volume of applicants is crucial.

All the IIMs announce their minimum CAT cut-offs on the official website to select the candidates for the final selection round. The CAT cutoff 2022 is yet to be released. However, the candidates can check the previous year’s CAT cutoff.

Factors Determining CAT Cutoff 2024

The IIM that conducts the CAT exam will release the CAT cutoffs after the CAT results. Here are some of the factors that authorities keep in mind while preparing the CAT cutoffs. Here are the key factors considered by IIMs:

  • The difficulty level of exam: The higher the exam difficulty, the lower the CAT cutoff, and vice versa.
  • Number of candidates appearing for the exam: The total number of candidates appearing in CAT 2022 will affect the CAT cutoff. That is, the more candidates appear for the exam, the higher the CAT cutoff and vice versa.
  • The number of seats available: The number of seats will also affect the cutoff.
  • The reputation of the Institute: Well-recognized institutions ranked under the NIRF management ranking will set cutoffs that are higher.
  • Previous year cutoff trends: The 2022 cutoff will be based on the previous year’s cutoff trends.

Conclusion

CAT cutoff refers to the minimum mark required for the candidates to get admission into one of the best MBA colleges. The cutoff will decide if the candidates can get admission into an IIM or other colleges that accept CAT scores.
