What is the National Scholarship Portal?

The National Scholarship Portal which is popularly abbreviated and known as the NSP is a very prominent scholarship portal that provides the students with a wide range of services which range from providing scholarships to the students to disbursing it among them. It is a digital scholarship platform that carries multiple scholarships offered by the central government, state governments, and various government agencies like UGC (University Grants Commission), AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), etc. It also hosts about 50 scholarships worth hundreds of crores among the students who have registered on the platform. The platform has helped the government implement and disburse scholarships worth more than INR 2,000 crores. The platform holds groundbreaking 125 Lakh applications out of which 105 Lakh applications are verified.

The NSP was introduced under the Mission Mode Project under the umbrella of the National e-Governance Plan and offers a SMART (Simplified, Mission-oriented, Accountable, Responsive, and Transparent) system for active and quicker distribution of scholarships. How to register for National Scholarship Portal?

The students who wish to benefit from these scholarships must register on the NSP portal. The candidates must follow the below-given steps to register on the National Scholarship Portal:

  1. Registration
  2. Visit the official website of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
  3. Click on ‘New Registration’.
  4. A new page will appear. It will have the guidelines for Registration on NSP.
  5. Go through the guidelines carefully.
  6. Click on ‘Continue’ to proceed.
  7. Fill in all the required details.
  8. Click on ‘Register’.
  9. You will receive an application ID and password on your registered mobile number.
  10. Login
    1. Click on the login button
    2. Enter the Student application ID and password
    3. Click on “Submit”
  11. Change Password (Mandatory)
    1. After you have logged in, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number.
    2. Verify the OTP.
    3. You will be redirected to “change the password” page.
    4. Change the password and click on “continue”.
  12. Enter the Dashboard
    1. After changing your password, you will be redirected to the dashboard.
    2. Click on ‘Application Form’
    3. Enter all the details (registration details, academic details and basic details)
    4. Click on ‘Save & Continue’.
    5. Enter contact details, scheme details and upload all the necessary documents.
    6. Click on ‘Save as Draft’
    7. After going through your form carefully, click on the ‘Final Submit’ button.

    1. The documents required to be uploaded depends on the scholarship that a student has opted for.
    2. A student can apply for multiple scholarships.

NSP Mobile App

The candidates can also apply for scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal App. The Government of India launched the National Scholarship Portal Mobile App in 2018 to ease the process of applying for the scholarships. The aspirants can download and install the mobile app through the Google Play Store. Also, there is an availability of the NSP mobile app in the ‘UMANG’ app launched by the government earlier.
