MOMA stands for the Ministry of Minority Affairs which is an initiative by the Prime Minister to help the Indian Minority students with financial aid to pursue education. This scheme helps students from minority communities like Sikh, Parsi (Zoroastrian), Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, and Jain. There are three scholarships under this scheme namely, Pre-Matric Scholarship, Post-Matric Scholarship, along Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for technical and professional programs. MOMA devises plans and strategies for benefitting the minority communities in India to help them develop and grow in all the aspects. The students are granted an amount of up to 20K/annum under this scholarship program.

The Government of India will distribute 5 lac scholarships under the Post-Matric Scholarship, 30 lac under the Pre-Matric Scholarship, and 60K under the with Merit-cum-Means Scholarship. The last date for online application form is October 2024. The result for the scholarship test is released between November and December.

Scholarships under MOMA
There are three scholarships under MOMA and they have been described below:
1. Pre-Matric Scholarship
This scholarship is exclusively devoted to Indian Minority students in the Pre-Matric level. The candidates between the classes I to X can benefit from this scholarship and receive a grant of up to INR 600/month. This is to help minority students attain their primary and secondary education. It can be availed by both girls and boys.
2. Post Matric Scholarships
This scholarship is exclusively devoted to Indian Minority students in the Post-Matric level. The candidates between the classes X to Ph.D. can benefit from this scholarship and receive a grant of up to INR 10000/year. This is to help minority students attain their higher education. It can be availed by both girls and boys.
3. Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme
This scholarship is exclusively devoted to Indian Minority students who want to pursue technical or professional courses. The candidates between the graduate to postgraduate level can benefit from this scholarship and receive a grant of up to INR 20000/annum. This is to help minority students attain their higher education. It can be availed by both girls and boys.
MOMA Eligibility Criteria
There are certain requirements or criteria devised by the conducting authority which must be fulfilled by the applicants in order to be eligible to receive the scholarship. The candidates who fail to meet the criteria will not be eligible to avail of the MOMA scholarship. The criteria vary depending on the scholarship applied by the candidate. The complete eligibility criteria for MOMA Scholarship have been mentioned below:
1. Pre-Matric Scholarship
Educational Qualifications
- The candidate applying for the Pre-Matric Scholarship must be studying in Class I to Class X.
- The candidate applying for the Pre-Matric Scholarship must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous year exam
Family Income
- In order to be eligible to receive the Pre-Matric Scholarship, the family income of the candidate must not exceed INR 1 lac.
2. Post-Matric Scholarship
Educational Qualifications:
- The candidate applying for the Pre-Matric Scholarship must be studying in Class XI or XII.
- The candidate applying for the Pre-Matric Scholarship must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous year exam
- Students in Polytechnics are also eligible to apply
- Students enrolled in technical or vocational courses in IT centers affiliated with NCVT (Class XI or XII level) can also apply.
- Students enrolled in certificate courses or any courses under the duration of 1-year are not eligible for the scheme.
Family Income:
- In order to be eligible to receive the Post-Matric Scholarship, the family income of the candidate must not exceed INR 2 lac.
3. Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
Educational Qualifications
- Students enrolled in technical or vocational courses at the graduate or postgraduate level are eligible to apply
- The candidate applying for the scholarship must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous year exam
Family Income
- In order to be eligible to receive the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship, the family income of the candidate must not exceed INR 2.5 lac.
Rewards and Grants
The students who are selected for the MOMA scholarships are entitled to various awards and grants such as financial assistance for the entire course, course/tuition fee, and maintenance allowance. However, the students receive the maintenance allowance for a time period of 10 months only (in one academic year). The benefit varies according to the scholarship and they have been mentioned below:

How to apply for MOMA?
The applicant must always check the eligibility criteria prior to filling the application form. The candidates can follow the steps given below to apply for the MOMA Scholarship 2024:
- Visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
- Complete the registration if you are a new user by entering basic details.
- The applicants are suggested to keep scanned copies of all the important documents which will be uploaded in the MOMA application form
- Enter details like educational qualifications, Aadhaar number, school roll number, bank details, and the domicile, etc.
- Once you register on the NSP, your ID will be created. Your application ID (10 digits) will be your login ID for future references.
The applicant who in class IX or X must apply under the Pre-Matric scholarship whereas the applicant in class XI or XII must apply under the Post-Matric scholarship category. The candidates going for technical or professional courses must select the Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
- The students are requested to be careful while filling the details as they cannot be changed later.
- Upload the scanned copies of all the required documents.
- Once you have filled in all the details and uploaded the documents, check the form thoroughly.
- Once you complete it, you will receive an OTP in your mobile number. Enter it in the application form.
- Click on the final “Submit” button.
