Introduction
GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is a joint examination held by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and the seven IITs in Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Roorkee, Kanpur, and Guwahati on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
GATE 2022 is being held on behalf of the National Coordination Board–GATE, the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, by the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and six other Indian Institutes of Technology in Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Chennai, Roorkee, and the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.

What is GATE Exam?
GATE is a competitive examination that aims to gauge the understanding of the candidate in various science subjects—engineering, technology, and architecture—at postgraduate levels. It is conducted for 24 papers (previously 23 papers). The examination centers are spread in different cities across India as well as six cities abroad.
The GATE Committee possesses the authority to regulate the examination and declare results. One of the eight administering institutes is designated as the organizing Institute, responsible for the management of the whole process and coordination amongst the administering institutes for conducting the GATE.
GATE Eligibility criteria
Candidates must have completed or should be in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology (at least four years) or must have completed or should be in the final year of the Post Graduate program in any relevant subject in science. GATE Application Process
GATE application must be submitted online by paying the required application fee and uploading the necessary documents.
GATE Exam Duration
The GATE examination is a computer-based examination conducted. The duration of the examination is for 3 hours, consisting of 65 questions for 100 marks.
GATE Score Card
The GATE score is computed by considering the actual marks obtained by a candidate. The GATE score will be based on normalized marks calculated corresponding to the raw marks for papers in multi-session.
GATE Result
The GATE results are announced within 30–60 days from the date of the examination. A GATE score tends to be valid for three years from the date of the announcement of the results.
Scope
The GATE score is required for seeking admission or financial assistance to
- Master’s programs and doctoral programs in engineering, technology, architecture, and relevant branches of science, in the institutions coming under the MHRD and other government agencies
- The GATE score is also used for applying for the recruitment process by many public sector undertakings.
