OSSTET Eligibility Criteria 2024: Education, Qualification Marks, Nationality

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, conducts Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test (OSSTET) twice a year. Before applying for the OSSTET Exam, candidates need to go through the OSSTET eligibility criteria.

Candidates who fill out the OSSTET Application Form without checking eligibility criteria will be rejected. Here is the OSSTET Eligibility Criteria 2024-25.

OSSTET Eligibility Criteria 2024

Nationality

  • Candidates should be Indian citizens.
  • Candidates should be residents of Odisha state.
  • Candidates who belong to other states are not eligible.

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must be fluent and familiar with writing Odia.
  • Candidates should have passed their Higher Secondary Examination from the BSE Odisha. Candidates passing their qualifying examination from CBSE or ICSE Board should have Odia language as one of the subjects.
  • Candidates should have passed their Secondary Examination from the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha. Odia should be one of the subjects.
  • Those who have passed Odia from BSE Odisha are eligible.
  • Candidates who wish to become Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, or Sanskrit teachers must have studied Odia language subject till class 7th Standard.

Academic and Professional Qualification

These criteria are divided into two sections:

  • Category I is for TGT (Trained Graduate Teachers) in Arts/ Science/ Hindi/ Urdu/ Telugu/Sanskrit Stream.
  • Category II is for Physical Education Teacher (PET)

Subject-wise Eligibility Criteria

Physical Education Teacher (PET)

  • Candidates must have 50% of marks in Class 12 (45% reservation will be given to the Reserved categories)
  • Candidates must have passed their B.P.Ed/ M.P.Ed/ C.P.Ed from a recognized university or institute

Classical Teacher – Telugu

  • Candidates must have secured 50% of marks in Class 12 (45% reservation will be given to the Reserved categories)
  • Candidates must have passed their B.Ed Telugu from a recognized university or college

Classical Teacher – Urdu

  • Candidates must have passed Urdu B.Ed from a recognized university and Alim with 50% of marks (OR)
  • Candidates must possess a B.A. Persian degree with 50% of marks and Urdu B.Ed from a recognized university or institute

Classical Teacher – Sanskrit

  • Candidates must have passed their Shiksha Shastri (Sanskrit), a course prescribed by NCTE, from a Recognised University/ Institution, and Bachelor’s degree with Sanskrit as the main subject/ optional subject/ elective subject. (OR)
  • Candidates must have passed their Shastri – Sanskrit Degree with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate (45% for reserved categories) from a recognized university and Shiksha Shastri (Sanskrit), a course prescribed by NCTE, from a Recognised University/ Institution.

Hindi Teacher

  • Candidates must have passed their Bachelor’s degree with Hindi as the main subject/ elective subject/ optional subject/ second language, and candidates must have B.Ed degree in Hindi/ Hindi Sikshyan Parangat from Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra/ B.H.Ed course prescribed by NCTE, from a recognized University/ Institution (OR)
  • Candidates must have passed their Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university along with Shastri (Hindi) from Orissa Rastrabhasa Parisad, Puri/ Rastrabhasa Ratna from Rastrabhasa Prachar Samiti, Wardha, and B.Ed degree in Hindi/ Hindi Sikshyan Parangat from Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Agra/ B.H.Ed course prescribed by NCTE, from a recognized University/ Institution

Trained Graduate Science Teacher in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Chemistry, Botany, Zoology Subjects

  • Candidates must have passed their B.Sc/ B.Tech/ B.E from a recognized university with 50% of marks (45% for reserved categories) and B.Ed from a recognized college/ university (OR)
  • Candidates must have a Four-year integrated B.Sc B.Ed

Trained Graduate Arts Teacher

  • Candidates must have passed their B.A/ B.Com with 50% of marks (45% for reserved categories) and B.Ed (OR)
  • Candidates must have a Four-year integrated B.A. B.Ed degree
